Its snowing again and my fingers are about to fall off. I better quickly get this post over with before they do, then...we don't want frozen blood on the keyboard, now.
There are 2 types of people. Those who remember their dreams, and those who don't. I would probably fall into the 2nd category. Recently, however, I remembered a dream that I had a few years ago. And I also remember thinking about that dream after I woke up, all those years ago. I was confused 'cuz I didn't know what it meant. It was kinda scary. So, I guess I must've repressed the memory or something...until now. I think I know what triggered the memory. Once I figure out/remember how to attach pics on this thing, I'll show it to y'all. I dreamed I was standing in a plain desert, on mount Safa (or Marwa..dunno which one it was), and the whole of humanity was standing there with me. We were all looking ahead of us, just below the hill, at a small mound of earth, built rougly in a box shape. It didn't have a top, a roof. The wind was dry and hot. The scorching sun beat down on our heads as we looked on in amazement and wonder at the simple shape that was made out of earth, below the hill. It was the Ka'bah. But it was smaller in me dream, simple, not made out of bricks but sunbaked clay or something. Ya know those simple mud houses that you see in Mauritania and stuff? It was like that, but way smaller and without a roof. Other stuff happened, but I can't be bothered to explain. The point of me mentioning this is: that we attach so much importance to the Ka'bah...for obvious reasons. Its the first ever house dedicated to the worship of God; the first ever Prophet founded it; been there ever since; took on different forms, but had the same importance; since the time of the Prophet Ibraheem monothiestic worshippers made tawaf around it, etc etc.
But these days, right, materialism has creeped into everything, even our worship. People ain't amazed at the peace they find in prayer, or the tranquility of doing dhikr with the birds in the sun, or the calmness that overtakes them when reading the Quraan at a certain difficult moment in life. No. Instead, we're excited by the structure of mosques..the towering minarets and the majestic domes; we're stunned by the intricate designs of the prayer beads, some with wooden carvings and other that shine with a marble effect; we're dumbfounded by the pretty patterns on the covers of the Quraans and the cool curves of the arabic script. See? Materialism innit. Somewhere along the way, mankind has lost its sense of spirituality and settled on the physical aspects of everthing. Even the Ka'bah. We shouldn't only be taken in by the black cloth that drapes it, or its size. We need to be humbled by the history of the Ka'bah, Who it was built for, who it was built by, what [literally] world-changing events took place around the vicinity of the Ka'bah etc.
That's what I realised after I thought about me dream. We're too engrossed in the thorny flowers that grow on our path while we've lost sight of our destination.
